My interest in photography was started at an early age, due to my father’s influence. I became seriously involved after graduating from high school and enrolling at the local community college. There seemed to be many obstacles and it took many years, but I earned my degree. While I was attending school, I had the opportunity to study under the guidance of Ron Talbot. Now I continually try to keep my vision trained by attending workshops. My development as a photographer has had many influences, among them working with my former wife and her business during the 80’s and into the early 90’s. Other inspiration has come from studying the works of master photographers. Helmut Newton and Bob Carlos Clarke were the ones that made me aware of the beauty in erotic/fetish photography. But there is a variety of stimuli in my work. My personal aesthetic has been developed from my own eye and my own experiences of being both a practitioner and student of photography. My photographic roots are in the “old school” photography, but the exploration of my vision has led to images in alternative processes and now digital imaging. I am not afraid to use any type of the medium to express my self. That may make it difficult to recognize a style in my work, but I feel it leaves a more interesting body of work. There is one predominant theme in my portfolio - nude females. That’s been my subject of interest throughout my photographic career. Most
of work is shown in galleries and art shows, there have been some
publications as well. I have won numerous awards; have been accepted in
juried and invitational shows - locally, nationally and in a small amount
of international exhibitions. The most recent showing, containing a large
body of my work, was in late 2003 at “The Bridges Gallery” in the show
“Some Like it Hot”. My most recently published image is in GARGOYLE
#50. I do constantly display my work in small quantities ever
year at local galleries and through the Internet. ModelMayhem.com DarkerNature.com OneModelPlace.com BridgesGallery.com Google Me! RESUMEScott D. Shimp
