 When I paint, I get my visual information from observation and allow my subconscious feelings to merge with my visual impressions on the canvas. I am interested in the figure and the background, how they relate to each other, and their relationship to the composition as a whole. I talk to the people I paint, and this helps me to connect with my feelings about them. I have a great interest in psychology, and I feel that the most important things about my paintings are subconscious. My goal as an artist is to open the door to my emotions and sharpen my eye as an observer.
