The Art of Viva Nova
My grandmother, a fine artist in New England, was probably my first introduction to creative thought, and also confirmation that this form of expression is in my genes. Since childhood, I have used whatever was available to me to create art. It became a serious vocation in San Francisco in the 80’s when I started hand painting fabric. Focusing on silk and cotton, making a series of Kimono’s that reflected my interest in various Cultures . They are in various private collections. "VIVA-FAB" was also used for hats, scarves , so long as it was cotton or silk. Then I got the commission to upholster the seating of the Dome Room @ Limelight when it was still here, Shortly after that I traveled some ,spending most of the 90’s in Switzerland, where my silk painting evolved into a serious study of ceramics with Piotr Stahli of Steffisburg., Through ceramics, I felt a sense of peace and accomplishment and patience that I never had before. Meeting Lulu Baenninger, who became my patron and ardent supporter, gave me the security to "follow my passion ", as they say. I thank her for the continued support and more important, her friendship. After returning to the U.S., I was commissioned to paint 8 table tops and a mural for my friends bar, Sacrifice in San Francisco. Upon returning to Chicago, I continued with my pottery until an unfortunate accident robbed me of one of my fingers. Refusing to be deterred by this setback, I started to paint tiles and boxes. I have always loved boxes, the concept of a three dimensional design expression & functionality especially, is very appealing to me. So, here we are in 2003. One door has closed, but others have opened. Even without any ‘formal’ training, my drive to make art of one kind or another , plus the continued support of my friends has given me the confidence to continue on this path. Much of the inspiration for the specific subjects on the boxes comes from my love for various religions’ imagery, as well as sigils, secret alphabets, Tarot, I- Ching , and just "stuff I like". Ancient to modern.

Since Krista & I created Las Glamazons.com this past Valentines Day, our work now has a new voice. Our logo says it all I believe, "Pleasure not Shame, Desires, not Jobs"

My highest hope is to give people something worth living with, with beauty.

Thank You, One Love,

Viva Nova
