The Photography of Piotr Tokarski
Polish born Piotr Tokarski was introduced to photography in 1980 at the age of nine, while visiting a local photo course on large format photography.
The next step was to purchase a cheap 35mm camera and darkroom equipment and begin to teach himself the craft of photography.
In the mid to late 80’s he studied at Warsaw’s School of Photography where he also began making his first films and videos.
Piotr’s experimentation with the female figure started in the early 80's when, as a young boy he discovered the art of photomontage.
He began pasting his classmates' faces into pages from dirty magazines. His first intimate and provocative composition was so realistic
and convincing that after a scandalous betrayal he had to return his pre-manufactured negatives and apologize to his beloved classmate
and her enraged parents.
His interest in the visual media ranges from old cameras and darkroom equipment to film and digital video to continuing to experiment
with images of the female form and nudity.
"As the body is slowly stripped bare it seems finally there was never much to hide."
From his exposures of oddity, abnormality, fetish and deviation he confronts, provokes, and excites the
imagination and, social conscious in a construct of aesthetic satisfaction.
