The Art of Carlos Diez
Carlos Diez is the major representative Artist of Pin-up art in Spain. In love with those mythical drawings of Betty Page and Marilyn Monroe, now he resurrects the genre his own way with the girls of our dreams.
Born in Madrid, Spain on the 16th of October 1966. After finishing elementary school he starts in the University of Fine Arts and School of Applied Arts to begin his artistic training, quitting it a year later after discovering that it didn't fulfill his creative expectations.
His long autodidactic formation and his ability with the airbrush helped him to publish his first works in the late 80's in record labels and publicity agencies of some importance. At the same time he starts teaching drawing and illustration establishing then the foundations for what later on would become his artistic education business: C-10 Formación Creativa.
But his rebel spirit of an artist is not satisfied with these jobs, abandoning them definitely to concentrate on his favorite theme, female curves and fantasy. Being these Pin-Ups of famous nude women and his "erotic portraits" what has made him extremely popular due to their incredible realism and above all, to that combination of the personality of his models with the own inspiration of the artist. So we can see his works in posters and covers all over the world on publications such as Kiss Comics, El Vibora, Eros Comic, Gigamesh, Dolmen, Viñetas, Heavy Metal, Playboy, Penthouse, Hablan, GQ, QMD…
Since 1999 and after his successful exposition "Sexy Dreams Pin Ups", strongly supported by press, radio and television he doesn't stop making erotic portraits of Spanish celebrities that knock at his study door. Inma del Moral, Paula Vázquez, Marlene Moreau o Malena Gracia are some of them. Also from that year on are common his contributions to TV and Radio shows. In his career it is also noteworthy his participation with the record label Locomotive Music, that chose him to illustrate the covers of its most prestigious heavy metal bands (2) Joe Stump, Transilvania 666, Tribute to Iron Maiden, Easy Rider, Tierra Santa, Azrael, Lujuria… being these known worldwide and for which he has received several awards. *At the end of 2001 Carlos decides to begin the creation of his official website, this contributes to a rapid diffusion of his work via Internet and he begins to receive orders from all over the world.
In May 2002, the prestigious American gallerist Robert Bane, specialist in Erotic Art and manager of Artist of worldwide prestige (Olivia de Berardinis, Sorayama…), discovers Carlos' Art and decides to contact him immediately. From this contact, Carlos shows his work in the Tamara Bane Gallery*.That same year, invited by the gallery, Carlos travels to Los Angeles*, where he meets Robert personally and from there he goes to San Diego to attend the collective exposition that the gallery offers in the biggest convention of arts grouped around the world of comic, the Comicon.*
There Carlos meets Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the Ninja Turtles and owner of Heavy Metal and immediately he becomes part of the team of collaborators of the publication, he also begins to receive direct orders from Playboy girls and other Hollywood celebrities. After studying how the world market of illustration works and the pros and cons of many offers received, Carlos decides to sign a contract with the multinational Mg/Publishing for the edition of two books about his Art that will finish with a third one of a well-known French editorial. All will be released by the end of 2003 and
